The Choir of Hamrahlid College
The Choir of Hamrahlid College was founded in 1967 by Thorgerdur Ingólfsdóttir, who conducted the choir for half of a century. Under her direction the choir became among the leading choirs in Iceland, performing for the first time many of today’s well known Icelandic choral pieces. Since 2017 Hreidar Ingi Thorsteinsson has been the conductor of the choir. Members, aged 16 to 19, are students of Hamrahlid College, Reykjavík. The choir is regularly offered to perform with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. The last project was on December 1st 2018, when the country celebrated its 100 years of sovereignty. Each spring semester the choir travels to various places within Iceland to perform broad repertoire of music for elementary schools and colleges. The choir is mostly known for performing newly written Icelandic choral music as well as arrangements of traditional Icelandic folksongs.
