Ægisif was founded in autumn 2016 by its conductor H. I. Thorsteinsson, with the goal to introduce to Icelanders the choral music of Eastern Europe. Since then the choir has performed for the first time in Iceland various choral pieces, among them the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom op.31 by Rachmaninoff. This performance got excellent critique, giving the choir later nomination as one of the best performers of the year at The Iceland Music Awards in 2017.
